According to a 2020 National Diabetes Statistics Report, 34.2 million Americans were found to have diabetes.1 This number represents 10.5% of the population in the United States. Another 88 million people have a condition that is often a precursor to a diagnosis of diabetes, called prediabetes. Prediabetes is a serious condition that involves higher than normal blood sugar levels (but not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes). The 2020 report also discovered that 7.3 million Americans were unaware they had diabetes, and only a little over 15% of adults with prediabetes knew that they had the condition. These numbers illustrate the significance of knowing the warning signs, as well as why getting tested for diabetes is important.
Most people don’t seek medical attention until they have symptoms of diabetes, which often appear as a result of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). Common warning signs of diabetes often include increased thirst, frequent urination, excessive hunger, fatigue, and more.
Prediabetes is reversible, It’s real. It’s common. And most importantly, it’s reversible. We can prevent or delay prediabetes from turning into type 2 diabetes with simple, proven lifestyle changes
