Bonfix Ltd, is an Israeli company that is developing an orthopedic implant to treat deformities related to Hallux Valgus (Bunions). The current treatment for Hallux Valgus is an osteotomy of the 1st metatarsal in which the bone is cut and repositioned to improve alignment of the big toe joint.
The Osteotomy is very invasive and has a long and painful recovery, with a high recurrence rate.
Disruptive Technology – novel shock absorbing fixation system
The Bonfix system is a novel shock absorbing fixation system with specially designed tools to allow easy and minimally invasive implantation of the system. The procedure begins by clamping the 1st metatarsal back into alignment and then implanting anchors into the first and second metatarsals with a shock absorbing connector. The system then holds the toes in alignment while allowing regular movement of the foot.
